Cosmetic tattooing, or Permanent Makeup/ PMU, has gained immense popularity in recent years, transforming the beauty industry with its ability to enhance, balance, and define features. However, along with its rise in popularity, various myths and misconceptions have emerged. At Inkvictus Studios, we believe in debunking these myths and shedding light on the reality of cosmetic tattooing. In this blog, we will separate fact from fiction based on years of professional experience in the industry.
Myth #1 – It’s Painful
Reality Check: One of the most common myths about cosmetic tattooing is that it’s a painful procedure. The truth is, while some individuals may experience mild discomfort, it should NOT be painful – if it is, something is seriously wrong and you should question it! We take proper measures to ensure a comfortable experience for our clients. Our artists use numbing agents and more gentle techniques to minimize any potential discomfort during the procedure, ensuring a relaxed and pleasant session.
Myth #2 – It Looks Fake
Reality Check: Another prevalent myth is that cosmetic tattooing results in unnatural-looking eyebrows, lips, or eyeliner. In reality, advancements in cosmetic tattooing techniques have allowed for incredibly natural-looking results. Our artists use custom-mixed colors and a soft and light tattooing approach to create beautiful, realistic enhancements that seamlessly blend with your natural features. The goal is to enhance your existing beauty, not to create an artificial appearance. I always say, “Think: a shadow of the perfect shape and color.”
Myth #3 – It’s Permanent Forever
Reality Check: Some people mistakenly believe that cosmetic tattooing is a permanent solution that lasts a lifetime – we DON’T want the tattoo to last forever, this is what makes the tattoo look artificial overtime. Think: grey, muddy/ cakey, and oversaturated… yuck. While the pigments used in cosmetic tattooing can be long-lasting, we want them to gradually fade over time. Keep in mind, factors such as sun exposure, skincare routine, and individual body chemistry can influence the longevity of the tattoo. Periodic touch-ups (we advise every 18+ months or so.) are necessary to maintain the desired color and shape, ensuring your tattoo remains fresh and vibrant – in a clean and healthy way.
Myth #4 – It’s Only for Women
Reality Check: Cosmetic tattooing is not exclusive to women. In fact, an increasing number of men are embracing these services to enhance their appearance. Whether it’s filling in sparse eyebrows, defining the lash line, or adding subtle lip color, cosmetic tattooing offers a versatile solution for individuals of all genders who wish to enhance their natural features and boost their confidence.
Myth #5 – It’s a One-Size-Fits-All Solution
Reality Check: Everyone is unique, and cosmetic tattooing recognizes and celebrates that diversity. Contrary to the myth that cosmetic tattooing is a one-size-fits-all solution, we prioritize customization. Our artists consider your facial features such as bone structure and muscle activity, as well as, your skin tone, and personal preferences to create a tailored approach that suits your individual needs. We also keep in mind the long-term results which is incredibly important when working on a human’s face! The result is a natural-looking enhancement that complements your unique beauty.
Myth #6 – It’s Risky
Reality Check: Safety is our top priority at Inkvictus Studios. We strictly adhere to hygiene protocols, using sterile and disposable equipment to ensure a clean and safe environment. Our artists are trained professionals who have extensive knowledge and experience in cosmetic tattooing. We only use high-quality pigments that have been rigorously tested to ensure optimal safety and excellent results. You can trust that your health, skin, and well-being are in good hands.
Cosmetic tattooing is a transformative beauty technique that offers a range of benefits, but it’s crucial to separate the myths from the reality. At Inkvictus Studios, we are dedicated to providing honest, transparent, and accurate information about cosmetic tattooing. Our team prioritizes your safety, comfort, and natural-looking results. Don’t let myths hold you back from exploring the world of cosmetic tattooing.
